Tirosint®

(levothyroxine sodium)

What is Tirosint®?

Tirosint® contains the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine sodium (also known as T4). Tirosint® is a soft capsule that contains levothyroxine dissolved in pure water. To produce the soft capsule, the auxiliary materials glycerol and gelatin are used.

Levothyroxine is necessary to supplement thyroid hormone deficiency in case of hypothyroidism. Blood tests can be used to diagnose hypothyroidism. They can similarly be used to measure whether the levothyroxine supplementation is succeeding in restoring the thyroid values to a normal level.

Research and clinical practice have shown that the normal value is not necessarily the optimal value for everyone. It is important to consult the treating physician to determine at what value the patient feels best.

Tirosint® is available in 12 dosage strengths:
13mcg, 25mcg, 50mcg, 75mcg, 88mcg, 100mcg, 112mcg, 125mcg, 137mcg, 150mcg, 175mcg and 200mcg.

Who is Tirosint® for?

Tirosint® is meant for people with an underactive thyroid. This disorder is also known as hypothyroidism. The thyroids of people suffering from this disorder do not produce enough hormones, which can lead to complaints. Through levothyroxine supplementation, this deficiency is resolved.

What does Tirosint® do?

Tirosint® contains levothyroxine, which can be used to replenish the thyroid hormone deficiency.
