Bladder problems

when symptoms affect your daily life

Bladder problems may sometimes seem minor, but they can have a significant impact on your everyday life — especially when symptoms keep coming back or when standard treatments don’t provide relief.
Common conditions include recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), interstitial cystitis (IC), or bladder problems following radiation therapy (radiation cystitis).

Recurrent urinary tract infections

Bladder infections are common, and women are affected more often than men — particularly for women between the ages of 15 and 24, and women over 65.
We speak of recurrent UTIs when you experience three or more bladder infections per year, each caused by bacteria.

Living with recurrent infections can cause pain, discomfort, and uncertainty. In addition to antibiotics, there are complementary treatments such as bladder instillations, which help restore the protective layer of the bladder wall and may help prevent new infections.

Interstitiële cystitis

Interstitial cystitis

Interstitial cystitis (IC), also known as bladder pain syndrome, is a rare, chronic and painful condition that mainly affects women.

In this condition, the bladder wall becomes irritated, making it less elastic and reducing its capacity. This often leads to a constant and painful ‘full bladder’ feeling. Other common symptoms include lower abdominal pain and a frequent, urgent need to urinate.

Since IC is not caused by a typical infection and unfortunately cannot be cured, treatment requires a different approach. The care of IC usually focuses on managing the symptoms and finding ways to reduce the impact on daily life.

Radiation cystitis

Radiation therapy in the pelvic area can cause inflammation of the bladder, leading to long-term irritation in the bladder. This occurs because radiation may damage the bladder’s lining and underlying tissues – a condition known as radiation cystitis.
